February

Dear Longwood Lion Families,

Happy February! As we settle into the second half of the school year, we want to take a moment to thank you for your continued partnership and support. Our students are working hard every day, and we still have a great deal of important teaching and learning ahead. Your commitment to getting students to school on time, every day, truly makes a difference. Each lesson counts, and we appreciate all you do to help your child succeed.

This spring will be an exciting time on campus, with many upcoming events and several field trips planned across grade levels. Our Lions are engaged, busy, and thriving, and we look forward to offering them memorable learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom.

Recently, we have seen an increase in disciplinary concerns. To maintain a safe and positive environment for all students, we ask for your partnership in reminding your child that comments about harming others—even said in a joking manner—are taken seriously. A threat, veiled or otherwise, is still considered a threat. Safety is our top priority, and we respond carefully to every concern brought to us.
Along those same lines, please encourage your child to tell an adult right away if they see or hear something concerning. Adults are here to listen, support, and keep everyone safe. While we are grateful when families hear information at home and reach out to us, it is equally important that students know they have trusted adults at school they can go to in the moment. Every Lion deserves to feel safe, supported, and heard.

We also have exciting news—Kindergarten registration is OPEN NOW! If you or your neighbors have a child turning five on or before September 1st, we would love to welcome them as our newest Longwood Lions. Please share the information below and help us spread the word throughout our community.
Thank you for your continued support and for being such an important part of our Longwood family.

Goooooooo Lions! 🦁💙

Sunshade Goal: 2026

Longwood Lions & Families,

Many of you know that one of our long‑standing goals since Longwood Elementary reopened has been to install a sunshade on our playground. This has truly been a labor of love, and thanks to your support, we have already held two schoolwide fundraisers with all funds earmarked exclusively for the sunshade. These dollars cannot—and will not—be used for anything else.

We are planning another Fun Run this year to continue raising money toward this important project. However, we would love to partner with our community now so that we can close the gap before the event. At this time, we are approximately $30,000 shy of having enough funding to make the purchase.

Because there is no state requirement mandating sunshades on playgrounds, the district is not able to cover the cost for us. That’s why our school community has stepped up, year after year, to help us work toward this goal for our students.

Sunshade prices continue to rise, so the sooner we reach our goal, the better positioned we are to secure one that meets our needs. With your help—and with the power of our generous Longwood community—we believe 2026 can be the year we finally make it happen!

If you or someone you know (a business, organization, neighbor, or generous friend) may be willing to donate or partner with us, please reach out. Every contribution makes a meaningful difference.

Thank you, as always, for your support of our Lions.
Goooooooo Lions! 🦁💙

PS - Picture is an EXAMPLE, not exact. However, it would be for the intermediate playground, not the PreK / VPK Playground, that playground already has a shade.

Attendance and Truancy Information, Mrs. Huber

Congratulations to the 267 students who earned perfect attendance for the month of January! Each student received a certificate and an animal squishy to celebrate their achievement. Thank you for continuing to encourage your child to come to school each day—we truly appreciate your support.

This is just a reminder that school starts at 8:25. Making sure your child arrives on time helps them start the day ready to learn, stay engaged in class, and build good habits for success.

If you have any questions about attendance or need support in addressing barriers, please contact Aimee Huber at 407-746-5233 or via email at Aimee_Huber@scps.k12.fl.us.

Carline / Reminders (drop off and pick up)

PICK-UP – PM:
We’ve already shaved significant time off our afternoon dismissal and carline—thanks to the support of Longwood PD and our incredible PM carline team, led by Officer Schwenn, Coach Cadle, Mr. Fix, Mrs. Hicks, and many other dedicated teachers and support staff. It truly takes a big team to make it run smoothly!
Please continue to follow all traffic laws, especially those related to posted road signs and turning restrictions during dismissal. After speaking with Longwood PD, we’ve been informed that beginning Monday, August 18, officers will be actively enforcing all traffic, parking, and drop-off regulations. Your cooperation keeps our students, families, and staff safe.

DROP-OFF – AM:
Starting Monday, August 18, we’re encouraging families to help speed up our morning carline. Please have your child ready to “hop out” of the vehicle as soon as you’ve come to a complete stop and it’s safe. This means backpacks and lunchboxes in hand, goodbyes already said, and any last-minute items (like tablets) ready before reaching the drop-off spot.
Saying your goodbye as you’re driving up and having your child prepared to exit quickly will help keep the line moving. Remember, we’re building independence—even for our youngest Lions—and every second counts in the morning. Thank you for helping us make drop-off smooth and efficient for everyone!

As an FYI - Longwood PD is running radar in and around Longwood ES on a daily basis. They have asked me to remind everyone to please watch speed and follow posted speed signage. Thank you!
